“Making Faces”
by Amy Harmon

What I thought...

“Ambrose Young was beautiful. He was tall and muscular, with hair that touched his shoulders and eyes that burned right through you. The kind of beautiful that graced the covers of romance novels, and Fern Taylor would know. She'd been reading them since she was thirteen. But maybe because he was so beautiful he was never someone Fern thought she could have...until he wasn't beautiful anymore.
Making Faces is the story of a small town where five young men go off to war, and only one comes back. It is the story of loss. Collective loss, individual loss, loss of beauty, loss of life, loss of identity. It is the tale of one girl's love for a broken boy, and a wounded warrior's love for an unremarkable girl. This is a story of friendship that overcomes heartache, heroism that defies the common definitions, and a modern tale of Beauty and the Beast, where we discover that there is a little beauty and a little beast in all of us.”

My heart! My heart! This book has broken my heart and given me the feels!!

Fern was so cute, loving the star of the school from afar. Ambrose was such a fantastic character my heart definitely got the feels. And Bailey was the comic relief we all desperately needed.

Making Faces is the first over 400 page book I read in a day. I loved it. I couldn’t stop reading it. Its a romance that is so much more than that. Its a tragedy about friendship and love and finding yourself out of the darkness. This is one of my favorites of the year by far.

This book will give you the feels, I’m warning you. The romance between Fern and Ambrose is so slow to heat it takes half the book and that’s what is great about it. Its a heartwarming story about friendship and makes you smile and cry with all the trials and tribulations.

Bailey is my favorite character because he takes his disability and fights right through it. Just because you are wheelchair bound doesn’t mean you can’t have a full life. Plus he was a great friend to both Ambrose and Fern when they needed it most.

This isn’t new adult. There are no sexual situations in this story. This is more like older young adult contemporary because it takes place right after highschool and college. But I would definitely pick this one up right away!! Its so good!!
